60 - Brian Wood - Double Crossed, a code of honour a complete betrayal

16 years in the military saw Brian lead troops into battle in many far off countries, little did he know the hardest fight would happen back at home in England.

Brian was a former Colour Sergeant in the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.  He was awarded the Military Cross by the Queen, it is one of the UK’s highest awards for gallantry and he well and truly deserved it
for his actions while serving Iraq. This was because of his immense bravery leading his men into battle during  the infamous Battle of Danny Boy where they were ambushed, and Brian had to lead a bayonet charge while he and his men were outnumbered by the insurgents who were firing at them.  Brian and his men won the fight but then had to endure the horrific clear up.

Suffering with PTSD, as you can imagine trying to integrate back into family life was a struggle to say the least without the second ambush which was about to happen to him. Out of nowhere he received a letter which his wife opened while he worked away from home, unbelievably Brian would now have to face accusations of murder and war crimes.  Thankfully he won this battle too but at a great cost.

As well campaigning for veterans rights, charity work speaking engagement and the imminent release of his book ‘Double Crossed, a code of honour a complete betrayal’ Brian stands behind the ‘Strong not Silent,’ movement which encourages those suffering to speak out and seek help for their mental health issues.
